Riding partner for Eastern Seaboard

Hi,
I am looking for a riding partner to go from Myrtle Beach/Charleston SC, up to Massachusets. I think it's about 1200 miles. I'll be going one way. I'll be leaving on May 1st and taking probably 20 days.

BTW, I'll have to turn this into a fundraising campaign for mental illness.

Letter in the mail.

No riding today. :( Tomorrow I'll try route B to the barn in Conway. I'm concerned that the road will turn to dirt road, however today I saw that at least part of it is paved.

The letter of which I speak, is from Active Transportion Alliance in Chicago. They want me to renew my membership to their walking, biking, mass trans, "active transportation," organization. It's a great organization, though I don't know if they are too large. I like their advocacy approach.

Looking at routes for biking, as I said, I found two routes to Conway. The first one had you riding on 501. I sent a message to google about this route. 501 is not rideable because of traffic. I still have to ride on about 200 yards of it after serpentining through a covenant retirement community.

I broke my dad's wrench. One allen wrench broke off the tip on the seat. I was on primordial, "Depot Road," and I gave the wrench an extra umph and SnaP! (Spin Doctor's wrench.)

So even though not much happens on the road, there's still plenty of bike-related stuff to keep up with.

First round trip.

So today I felt I could make the trip there and back to the barn after making a couple one-ways. It turned out to be 54 miles total. That's the most I've done in a while. Right now I seem to be in good spirits, though at the end of the ride I was exhausted. A little embarrasing considering the mileage during the trip last summer.

I'm still not totally used to riding on these roads in Myrtle beach but hopefully time will help. According to a friend, the car/rider relations have really improved over the last 15 years.

I rode to the horse show where I watched some great riders. I missed my friend's round where she got !st. Maybe next time I'll leave earlier.

Happy trails with Paul and Jerry

Today I set out and happened to meet up with two fellow riders, Jerry and Paul. They showed me Myrtle Beach's oldest golf club, "Pine Oaks." I learned that the Texas Rangers will now run the farm team on Robert Grissom Pkwy.

We rode down R.G.P and I turned right to go on my way. Jerry (name?) told me that once you get to Conway you can ride a good 70 miles. Also, it's a 100 mile trip to Charleston, so maybe a ride to spend a night there would be good to give a try. I rode 25 miles.

I'll see if I can post GPX files on here somehow.

Ride for supportive housing.

In the summer of '10 I did a ride to Washington D.C. to promote and educate about mental illness and "the Housing Task Force," in the CHicago area. They are proposing a housing facility needed (hopefully the first step in addressing a looming problem of housing for people with mental illness) in the northwest suburbs. Msg me with any questions, please. Also, their website is here. The blog for the trip ishere.

Pumping iron

Today I worked out. The goal is to put on a little bulk to give me a little more sprinting power. I idolize the European sprinters who seem to be able to round out their overall ability somewhat better than American sprinters. Think Robbie McEwan(Aussie) and Mark Cavendish(english), Stuart O'Grady and others.

11-01 Errand Runs

Having a mission and destination makes it easier to hop on the bike some time. Going to the post office and then taking recycling to recycling center. Maybe do GPS track to recycling center.
